Israel's Bondage; Appearance of the Angel of the Lord
(Exodus 2:23-3:2)

Israel's Bondage; Appearance of the Angel of the Lord Exodus 2:23-3:2 While Moses lived in Midian, the children of Israel continued to live in slavery. Israel's slavery was very bad and God heard their cries. God remembered His covenant with them and planned to lead them out of Egypt to freedom.

Moses kept Jethro's flock. Jethro was Moses' father-in-law and the priest of Midian.

One day, Moses had taken Jethro's flock to Horeb so that they could graze.

Horeb became an important place. It is where Moses met his brother on the way back to Egypt. It is where Moses gave the children of Israel the Law. And it is the place where God commanded Moses to strike a rock and water came out of the rock.

Then the Angel of the Lord appeared to Moses. The Angel of the Lord looked like a flame of fire. And the fire was coming from a bush, but the bush did not burn up.

Questions:

1. Were the children of Israel still living in slavery while Moses was living in Horeb?

2. Was Israel's slavery bad? Did God hear their cries?

3. Whose flock did Moses keep?

4. Who was Jethro?

5. Why did Horeb become an important place?

6. Did the Angel of the Lord appear to Moses in Horeb?

7. What did the Angel of the Lord look like?

8. Did the fire burn up the bush?
