Calling on the Name of the Lord to be Saved
Bible study on salvation: Calling on the name of the Lord.
Acts 4:12

The only name by which we must be saved is Jesus.

"Name of Jesus" denotes the authority of Jesus (Acts 3:6, 16; 4:7, 10). Only Jesus has the authority and power to save us. He must obey Him to be saved (Heb. 5:9; cf. Jn. 12:48).

Acts 2:21

We must call on the name of the Lord to be saved (cf. Acts 4:12).

The phrase "name of the Lord" denotes the authority of the Lord (Acts 3:6, 16; 4:7, 10; cf. Es. 8:8; 1 Ki. 21:8).

To "call" on the name of the Lord to be saved is to appeal to the Lord's authority to be saved.

Acts 22:16

We call on the name of the Lord (i.e., appeal to His authority) to be saved by submitting to baptism. Our sins are washed away when we are baptized (Acts 22:16). We are saved after being baptized (1 Pet. 3:21; cf. Acts 2:38).

Jesus has commanded us to be baptized in order to be saved (Matt. 28:18-19; Mk. 16:15-16; cf. Acts 2:38; 1 Pet. 3:21). The people who obey Him are saved (Heb. 5:9).

We must be baptized in the name of Jesus (i.e., baptized by the authority of Jesus) to be saved (Acts 2:38; 8:12, 16; 10:43, 48).

1 Pet. 3:21

We appeal to God to be saved when we are baptized. We do not have a good conscience toward God until after being baptized (cf. Heb. 9:14).

Col. 3:17

Everything we do must be authorized by Christ (cf. Gal. 6:2; 1 Cor. 4:6).
