The Church
Bible study on the church.

Matt. 16:18

Jesus built His church. Note that Jesus only built one church of which He is the Head (cf. Col. 1:18; 3:15; Eph. 1:22-23; 4:4; 5:23; 1 Cor. 12:13).

Acts 2:1-47

Christ's church was established, after Jesus' ascension into heaven, on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 1:4-11).

Rom. 16:16; 2 Cor. 8:1; Gal. 1:2

Christ's church is composed of many congregations.

Acts 2:38-47

Christ's church is composed of people who have repented and been baptized for the remission of their sins. The Lord adds those who are being saved to the church (cf. 1 Cor. 12:13).

Gal. 1:22; 1 Th. 2:14

Local churches are in Christ.

A local church is composed of people who are in Christ.

A person who has repented and been baptized for the remission of sins has been added to the church (Acts 2:38-47). He is in Christ (Gal. 6:3; Gal. 3:27). He has been baptized into the body (1 Cor. 12:13). Therefore, local churches are in Christ (Gal. 1:22; 1 Th. 2:14).

Eph. 5:23

Christ is the Savior of the body (i.e., the church). He purchased it with His own blood (Acts 20:28; cf. Eph. 5:25).

All spiritual blessings are in Christ (Eph. 1:3). Jesus is Head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all (Eph. 1:21-23).

The church is subject to Christ (Eph. 5:24).

Christ's body in the church (Eph. 1:22-23; Col. 1:18). There is one body (Eph. 4:4); therefore, there is one church of Christ (cf. Rom. 16:16).

1 Cor. 12:13

We are baptized into the body (cf. Rom. 6:3; Gal. 3:27 we are baptized into Christ thus into His body which is the church).

1 Tim. 3:15

The church is the house of God, the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Eph. 2:19-22

The church is the household of God; the saints are built on the foundation of the apostles, prophets, and Jesus Christ. It grows into a holy temple in the Lord. It is built together for a habitation of God in the Spirit.

The church is not mortar and stone but the saints (Eph. 2:19).
